MICHAEL SCHOTTELKOTTE
Raised in Ohio, he obtained a B.S. from Seton Hall University where he majored in Chemistry. He then attended the University of Colorado where he received his law degree.
Michael is licensed to practice law in Colorado. His main areas of legal practice are property, estate planning and administration, business entity, elder, construction and development, and municipal. Mike is the City Attorney for Delta (2006-present) and the Town Attorney for Lake City (1993-present). Mike was the Municipal Judge for the City of Delta (1974-1993), the Assistant Municipal Judge for the City of Montrose (1998-2009), the Associate City Attorney for Delta (1993-2006) and the former Attorney for Ridgeway Planning and Zoning Commission. He was the Environmental Law Research Assistant to Professor David Engdahl in 1971 while at the University of Colorado. Mike is a member of the Colorado Bar association and the Delta, Bar Association. He is a member and past officer of the Delta Kiwanis Club (1974-present), Chairman of Troop Scout Committee, Troop 480, Boy Scouts of America, Montrose (1983-present), and the current President of Community Options, Inc. (1974-present). Mike was on the Board of Directors of the Western Colorado Council of Boy Scouts of America (2000-2006), a former member of the Delta Water Advisory Board (1976-1977), a former member of the Delta Library Board, and formerly on the Board of Directors of Delta Triangle Theater.
In 1973 as a young attorney, he appeared before the Colorado Court of Appeals in Tilley v. Bill’s Sinclair, where he was able to achieve a reversal of the Colorado Industrial Commission’s decision to deny worker’s compensation benefits to the widow of a deceased employee of a business.
Mike enjoys virtually any activity in the great western outdoors including hiking, skiing, sail boarding, and white water rafting.
Mike joined the firm in 1972 and has been practicing law for over 30 years.
